17 – Aloft, Neuston net, Dolphins, Fireworks

I woke up at 0600 because I heard the big loud engine. I made a cup of coffee and enjoyed the view of Buzzards Bay from deck. This morning my watched learned to climb aloft! Then it was lunchtime and we ate at gimbled tables. At 1300 my watch started for my group. We did boat checks, look out, navigation, and science. A cool thing that happened while on watch was seeing dolphins! I was lookout at the bow and dolphins were about a mile off the port bow. This was the coolest thing I’ve seen. I was looking in the binoculars trying to get a closer look. I saw dolphins breaching the surface and jumping out! (I could tell they were enjoying themselves) For science today we towed a Neuston net! We looked at the specimen under a microscope and we found fish eggs, copepods and much more! My watch ended at 1800 just in time for dinner. We are now anchored in Provincetown, MA. Today was a long day and I am exhausted which is why I am not writing that much. But I am sitting on top of the chart house looking at the orange moon and fireworks on shore right now. Heading to bed soon to get ready for my 0300-0400 anchor watch with Benny.

We have travelled 61 nautical miles.
